Good morning beloved writers!!!

Writing from the Womb is back!!!!

Writing from the Womb, Spring 2014 has arrived!

Spring is the most magnificent time to get new projects off the ground and give birth to those stories we were born to tell.

It has been my honor to share sacred space for the “soul” purpose of nurturing women’s creativity for the last eight years. From the founding of the NYC Latina Writers Group, to curating countless spoken word events, to bringing in authors, editors and publishers, in addition to facilitating many writing workshops that have provided writers with opportunities to not only create important work, but to also understand the value of offering it to the world.

My most humbling and significant role is around supporting writers in doing the work… the task of tending to the work… the discipline of the writers craft… the process of giving birth to something you work so hard for. I realized recently that everything that I have done in my life, on my writers journey, discovering my voice, leading women spaces has led me to transforming the Writing from the Womb workshop and facilitating it in a much different way than I have in the past.

For the most part our workshops have been an incredible experience of six week sessions where many women walked away with hundreds of pages of work that we have started together. What I am finding is that oftentimes once we are done, once the six weeks are up the writer abandons their work, their story, their journey… and perhaps I am being called to walk with writers a little while longer.

What I have learned recently came to me in an amazing quote that confirmed to me that I am always on the right path and that the answers always arrive right on time:

Every midwife knows
that not until a mother’s womb
softens from the pain of labour
will a way unfold
and the infant find that opening to be born.

Oh friend!
There is treasure in your heart, it is heavy with child.
All the awakened ones, like trusted midwives are saying,
welcome this pain.
It opens the dark passage of Grace.

40 weeks~

A woman carries in her womb a creation to be given birth to in nine months and having a midwife for that entire process is a blessing. Allow me to be your midwife.

This is what I am offering my beloved writers.

The role of a midwife is a privilege. It has been my honor to nurture writers, to listen with my ears, but mostly with my heart to the stories that stir beneath the surface, that reside in the womb.

As your midwife I serve as a gentle guide who protects your womb and asks the questions you may be afraid to ask as you move through this creative process that is not only writing a story but giving birth to it. It requires a tremendous amount of self-care and nurturing.

As your midwife I will help you discover new ways to search for your story, holding your hand as the miracles and mysteries unfold. Reminding you to breathe, to trust, to surrender to this process. Celebrating with you all of the surprises that your characters have for you.

As your midwife I am preparing you for all stages of your pregnancy/process.

For nine months I will be in partnership with you and your story.

For nine months I will be committed to you, your self care and your story.

Take my hand!

With love,
Alicia Anabel
