Sometimes You Have to Let Go of The Old Dream to Make Room for the New Dream!

On the eve of our anniversary I’m sitting on the beach in Galveston, Texas… I definitely wanted to be in New York celebrating our many accomplishments with you. But I have been called away and blessed with an opportunity to write in community with five amazing women… Five AfroLatina women writers from all over the United States. They came from Los Angeles, DC, Chicago, New York and Houston. What a gift I have been given to be here in Texas celebrating our anniversary doing what I love, doing what we love the most — writing.
These waves are crashing loudly rising to where I am sitting and it’s beautiful here. The sun is setting. The colors are exploding in the skies. Reds, oranges, blues, pinks and yellow. There is a Ferris wheel… an amusement park in the distance. From the moment I stepped off the plane I felt this surge of creativity. It is moving me to take more risks. I’m stretching myself to new areas and new skills. I’m pushing my writing to a completely new level and place. This is my wish for you. Dream a new dream! Dare to dream! Push yourself beyond your limitations. Stretch yourself! Trust the process! Surrender!

One of the writers that I met on this journey said something brilliant today… something that struck a chord with me… “Sometimes You Have to Let Go of The Old Dream to Make Room for the New Dream!”

This is why it has taken nine years for me to figure out exactly the right direction for the New York City Latina Writers Group. I have a new dream for us and I can’t wait to share it with you when I return.

As we celebrate and enter our ninth year I have so many wishes for every womyn in this group…

I have so many wishes for the women who find it hard to claim or reclaim the title writer…

For the women still struggling to find their voices…

For the women who find it hard to commit to their craft…

For the women who need a little more encouragement, support and nurturing…

This is your home! This is your space! Come to us and we will support you! This is a beautiful community and sisterhood.
