Day 15 of Agent Search:
While I was in Costa Rica I received incredible feedback about my main character and a secondary character I am writing. As I shared short excerpts of the story, I introduced the writers to the worlds of both my significant characters and their journey.
They pointed out to me that both women were equally as important… both my characters have their individual journey and goals that they want to achieve. They wanted to see the secondary character rise to meet the protagonist.
When we write, its important to move away from what is expected, what we have been taught about “THE RULES…” that for a story to work, there must be ONE protagonist and ONE antagonist.
Yes, for conflict to work we must have opposing characters, with their own agendas and desires and circumstances… but what I am realizing is that my story has two equally important main characters and so now the task is to follow them on their journey and see where they take me.
Writing goals for today — working on Parsley and studying my craft.
I WORK! I WRITE! I STAY WITH IT! EVERYDAY I WRITE! AND I AM REMEMBERING TO SLOW DOWN!
(1) What character A1 wants… What character A2 wants…
(Ask of your story, character, scenes, symbols or themes every question you would ask about their motivation and intention. What do we want to say?) Set timer for (1 hour)
Check in later. Happy writing! Wishing you all an amazing day!
