These women are no longer emerging. They have created platforms, published books and created their own spaces where their voices can and will be heard. Tomorrow is a special evening in their honor. Mujeres at the Mic!: A Reading by Nuyorican Women Writers. (,  ,  ,  ) What is a Nuyorican? Are any of them women? This reading discusses what it means to be a woman in the Nuyorican literary movement and poetry performance scene from Loisaida, El Barrio, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and beyond by featuring the work of four prominent, intergenerational New York City-based poets at different stages of their careers. With their defiant and oftentimes nostalgic expressions in English, Spanish, and Spanglish, these mujeres have secured their spot in Nuyorican history.
